Davenport High School Awarded Texas UIL 4A Lone Star Cup

June 17, 2026 - Davenport High School has won the prestigious Texas UIL 4A Lone Star Cup in only its sixth year of being open. Awarded annually to six high schools, one in each of the six UIL classifications, this award honors the best overall athletic and academic programs in Texas and is based on team performance in district and state championships.

The winning schools in each classification receive the UIL Lone Star Cup trophy and a $1,000 scholarship. Unlike awards that solely measure athletics or fine arts, the Lone Star Cup rewards the high school based on all of its programs. Points are accumulated across a wide range of UIL activities including athletics, fine arts and academics. This means marching band, one-act play, computer science, football, basketball, track and more.

“We are honored and excited to have received the Lone Star Cup,” says Angela Looney, DHS principal. “Our students, teachers and families continue to raise the bar on what they can achieve together. From our sports and band to our CTE and ROTC programs, our students are connected and involved, ensuring that everyone belongs to the Wolf Pack.

“We have truly built a community that works together, cheers for one another and encourages one another. It is a privilege to be a member of this pack.”

A few of this year’s UIL honors which contributed to the total score for the Lone Star Cup are listed here.

  • Girls Cross Country Team – 4th in State
  • Marching Band – 2nd in State, 1st in percussion
  • Spirit Cheer Team – 2nd in State, Best of Category: Band Chant
  • Boys Swim Team – 4th in State with three individual gold medals and one bronze medal for team relay
  • Girls Basketball Team – State Semifinalist
  • Girls Soccer Team – 3rd in State

In addition to these state-level awards, UIL gives points to districts for advancing in play-off contests which helped DHS in accumulating points. The Wolves received points for the following sports: tennis, girls and boys water polo, volleyball, football, boys basketball, softball and baseball.

The Lone Star Cup's sponsor is Texas Farm Bureau.
