Student Talent Showcased at Night of Stars Banquet

Oct. 6, 2022 - While the annual Night of Stars banquet is all about honoring the best of the best when it comes to Comal ISD teachers and staff, the talent and flair of students, stole the show.

Honorees and their guests were greeted by an ensemble of musicians from Canyon High School’s orchestra under the direction of Manuel Arambula. The group performed a medley of musical pieces prior to the start of the program. The ensemble included Emma Hennessee and Andrea Fuentes playing the violin; Anna Benson and Marc Mora, playing the viola; Presley Batkins playing the cello; and Ian Randolph playing the string bass.

Halfway through the program, guests were treated to a special performance by an ensemble from the Canyon Middle School choir under the direction of Katrina Bernhard. The group performed “Stand Up” from the movie “Harriet” and “This is Me” from “The Greatest Showman.” Choir performers included Madeleine Busch, Sayzleigh Cantu, Ansley Frazier, Layla Garcia, Olivia Grant, Jazzelle Hernandez, Peyton Hunt, Dina Karray, Letesa Spencer and Gabriela Vasquez.

In addition to the students who performed at the banquet, another group of students from Canyon Lake High School showcased their design skills by creating and constructing the event’s floral arrangements.

“This was a great opportunity to show what we do in floral design and showcase our students’ work,” said Alyssa Peterson, career and technical education (CTE) teacher in the floral design/plant science program at CLHS.

The centerpiece design included a decorative box which was created and constructed by students enrolled in the CLHS construction program, another CTE program offered by the district. Construction science teacher Cory Mickey supervised seven students who made 40 boxes for the banquet.

The collaboration between these two CTE programs was a big success with the centerpieces being the talk of the night.

A big, “Thank you,” to these students and their teachers for making this year’s Night of Stars shine even brighter.
