Memorial Early College High Accepting Applications

Calling all incoming ninth grade students who are looking for a high school of choice. Comal ISD’s Memorial Early College High School (MECHS) is accepting applications for the 2019-2020 academic school year. Application deadline is midnight Friday, March 22.

MECHS is an Early College High School (ECHS) and a New Technology School (NTN), and is one of only two high schools in the nation with both of these designations. MECHS students learn through project-based learning and graduate with a distinguished high school diploma with advanced performance acknowledgements and an associate’s degree from St. Philips College. Additionally, MECHS focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM).

Opening in 2009 as an ECHS, MECHS graduated its first class in 2013 with 36 students earning both their diploma and associate’s degree. This past year, MECHS graduated 51.

As a school of choice, the selection process is based on a lottery drawing of 110 students. Applications will be accepted from students both within and outside the district’s attendance zones; however, students within the Comal ISD attendance zone will have first priority.

The enrollment process will require the following steps: a completed application turned in by midnight Friday, March 22, which serves as the student’s lottery ticket; if selected, the first 110 lottery drawing of student names, will attend a collaborative interview with school administrators; and a review, signing and submitting of a commitment agreement is completed by May 15.
